After 5 long years of waiting, Carson High School has made its official comeback. The football field has officially been refurbished and renewed and is ready for fans to enjoy.
CHS opened its new field last Thursday, with a sold-out game against Narbonne High School. The field took over a year to refurbish and is now a big hit in the community.
“I hope everyone brings positive vibes despite the feuds that have been going on in social media,” said leadership advisor and Spanish teacher Ms. Benitez. “Over the past week, young high school students from CHS and NHS have been getting into conflict over who shall win the opening game which opened the conversation for safety measures since it is a community game.”
To combat safety concerns, many precautions were in place.
“We had the school police there, the sheriff there, and lots of staff helping with security,” said Shane Riddle, CHS Assistant Principal. “Many students and parents were concerned over the safety at the game, but Carson had the game very well organized and secure.”
Despite some complaints about tickets being oversold due to the excitement and anticipation, CHS students and parents were able to sit and watch the game from the other side of the field. Although there were no seats left on the home side, organizers made sure to still accommodate guests who had bought tickets to the sold-out game.
The opening of the football field has sparked conversation over the next project that Carson Complex and the district should invest in. Some students and faculty members at CHS believe that a worthy investment would be to add funds to the school clubs and programs.
“I'd like to see the school invest in more programs,” said Academies of Education and Empowerment junior Jeremiah Swazer.
All in all, the opening of the new CHS football field has sparked much-needed conversations and many enjoyed attending the opening and are excited about future games.
