Students in Carson Complex love what the Boys & Girls Club of Los Angles has to offer as an entity designed to “inspire and enable all youth, especially from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible members of the community.”
The Carson High School Boys & Girls Club is operated by Ms. Natalie Martinez, who is the Site Director, and Ms. Arnelle, who is the College and Career Access Coordinator.
The Boys & Girls Club has lots of different activities for their students including College and Career Workshops, College and Career Case Management for 9th-12th Grade, Scholarships and after school tutoring.
The club also includes power hour, where kids can do their homework, and they provide computers, WIFI and printers. It is the hope that these activities will help students focus on school.
The Boys & Girls Club also has activities where students can learn things that will help design their future. They have resume building, which helps students design and complete their resume. A great resume can find internships or jobs after high school, certifications such as CPR, become efficient in typing, and gain food handler certifications.
They also have Drivers Education, Keystone Leadership, and Money Matters which helps students learn about finances, managing debt, credit cards, and paying for college.
Additionally, they have a Cooking Club which meets every Friday. The Cooking Club creates recipes that focus on cooking in college!
They have sports activities as well! They have Box Spartan, which provides a fitness club and prepares students for the Spartan.
Finally, The Boys & Girls Club also has Prime Time-a program for special needs students. They practice social skills and learn how to work in a team with a mentor from the sports division.
Ultimately, The Boys & Girls Club provides a place for students to hangout and make new friends.
It is located in X4, and to join, a registration form is needed.
It is free, and no mandatory daily attendance is required.
It starts directly after school, and goes on until 6:15 pm, and if you are interested, join The Carson High School Boys & Girls Club today!
