Carson High School's homecoming dance was presented on October 5th 2024 on campus, along with an “Old Hollywood” theme. The tickets to attend were sold at the student store for a few weeks, and it was a confirmed sell-out by senior advisor Ms. Robles. With 250 students from campus, plus guests that were welcome, a full house was expected.
During this time, promotional videos were created and shared on various social media platforms to make everyone aware of the event.
9th-12th grade students also ran for the title of Homecoming King or Homecoming Queen. They engaged with others on campus through their campaigns to get the idea of getting the vote out across campus. Posters were also made and presented at the homecoming black out football game, along with the winners of the homecoming court.
“My experience being a part of the homecoming court was very fun.,” said CHS senior Avant Jackson who was crowned Homecoming King.
The consensus seems to be that homecoming was a success.
“It was a good and fun experience, especially as a senior it was very enjoyable for me to be able to talk to other people. I also enjoyed spending time with my friends and really liked the theme, it was very classic,” said CHS senior Lauren Brumfield.
Because the dance was held on campus, some people had doubts about how legitimate the experience would be.
“At first, I wasn't sure [if] I would like it being at school, but the way they decorated and transformed the place really brought out the theme,” said Brumfield.
“When I first found out about it being hosted here, I didn't want it to be, but I am glad it was because I enjoyed myself,” said Jackson.
Criticisms included push back regarding the food and color scheme choice.
“Personally, I didn't like the theme, but I was able to match the colors, and as for next year, I think that they should definitely change up the food because I feel like what was served is very common in a lot of venues,” Jackson.
All the feedback from students is sure to be considered for future events according to administration.
As a bonus, advisors here at CHS were able to get content that was later shared with everyone so that they could keep this day as a part of a memorable experience.
