Doja Cat starts to lose followers because of her use of “demons” in her new music videos saying that she feels “free” because of this.
The American rapper and singer Doja Cat released a new album called Scarlet on September 22, 2023, and it has caused a lot of controversy.
Scarlet had 2 singles, one being “Paint the Town Red”, which reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and several other national charts worldwide. Scarlet has vastly promoted thanks to her hit singles, including “Demons” and “Attention”
With Scarlet, Doja is supposedly being more of herself and not looking simply for a payday according to reports. The album is descriptive as having distorted yells and an uneasy feeling of a synth beat and more in line with what Doja really wanted to sound like.
“Honestly with the Doja Cat situation, it could be that she uses demons as marketing, grabbing attention which can be like the black sheep of a white sheep herd being the one standing out,” said Carson High School senior Joshua Riel. “It works [because she is] reaching listeners and numbers.”
CHS senior Juan Ponce also believes that Doja’s latest artistic endeavor is simply a tactic to gain more fans.
“If she was Christian or had a religion, she wouldn’t have that many listeners or views but now that she sides with demons and evil we can see that … it works,” said Ponce.
In the end, many are unsure as to why this recent side of Doja Cat released music videos that have creepy scenery. Who knows, maybe it was for the upcoming Halloween season though it was posted in August. Whatever the explanation, Scarlet is an album that does stand on its own with no features and collabs while still reaching top hit status.
