The Netflix original movie K-Pop Demon Hunters directed by Maggie Kang and produced by Sony Pictures Animation has quickly made its way to being the second most watched movie on Netflix's platform making it popular across the world.

With a run time of one hour and forty minutes the movie has been able to provide a compelling story about self-discovery and found family through its main characters Rumi, Zoey, and Mira who are all young adults.

They appear as K-Pop idols to the public but in secret they hunt demons in order to protect the souls of citizens and to strengthen the honmoon and banish demons from earth forever.

The movie’s impressive visuals and attention to detail have made the seven years of production worth it both for the animators, directors, and producers.

The movie has become so popular that it got a two day theatrical release this August on the 23rd and the 24th in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

A lot of the movie’s fanbase does seem to be people in their teenage to young adult years. Because of this it might be said that the film’s popularity in the states might be thanks to the spike in popularity of K-Pop in 2021 during the pandemic.

Many of those in generation Z have missed out on a lot of social activities during the pandemic which made them gravitate to their phones and to social media.

Groups like BTS, Blackpink, and Twice had been on social media during this time trying to make their debut.

With their bright visuals and catchy beats these groups have successfully captured the attention of these adolescent audiences trying to find an escape from the state of the world during that time.

Fast forward a couple of years and this film, having provided the masses with an authentic representation on the Korean culture and K-Pop genre, has gained its popularity with more than just fans of the music genre.

Not only has it gotten great reviews from audiences across different regions, it has also gotten the attention of the students at Carson High School (CHS).

Eric Ramirez, a freshman in the Environmental Science Engineering and Technology CHS pathway said, “I didn’t care for it as much as I thought but it was a good movie.”

“I did like some of the songs, but my favorite parts of the movie were the fight scenes. The visuals for that were great.” Eric added.

However there was room for some criticism for the movie among the students.

Another student, Darica Cabalda, a junior in the Academy of Medical Arts on the CHS campus stated, “I feel like they didn’t build up Jinu and Rumi’s relationship enough since the film was too short. They kind of just went from enemies to lovers in a single scene.” When asked about her thoughts on some of the film's flaws.

But overall she did find the film to be a good one. “Yes, I've already watched it, like, four times.” Darica followed up after being asked if she would watch this film again.

Based on the reviews on rotten tomatoes and the students at CHS this movie seems like it’s worth the watch.

I loved reading about this movie. I watched it at home with my family and it is really interesting to hear the students perspectives and opinions. Great job!
