Over the past few months, street vendors have been the target for several robberies and attacks causing many vendors to be scared to sell their food and merchandise.
Recently, there was an attack on September 2nd against a man named Jose Carbajal who was robbed in broad daylight in front of his daughter while he was selling T-shirts. The robbers had reportedly taken all the money he had, his passport, and the registration for his vehicle.
Community members want ways to prevent attacks against individuals like Carbajal.
“If they are caught, there are enough consequences to deter them from it,” said Carson High School counselor Mr Chai.
The reasons behind the attacks seem to be monetary.
“I think that they are vulnerable because they're out there without protection and probably people out there know that their business operates mostly on cash,” said Mr. Riddle of CHS “so they see it as an easy way to get some money.”
