The first ever award ceremony during Back to School at Carson High School was held on September 12, 2024, at 7 PM in the MPR.
The awards acknowledged Honor Roll, achievement for meeting the standards for the SBAC, and lastly, for attendance.
Around 100 students went, but a major complaint was that some students didn’t receive their awards.
Food was offered as well. There was pasta, salad, cookies, pizza, and lumpia.
Overall, the ceremony received mixed reviews.
On the one hand, the event was described as chaotic and unorganized, but a positive was the fact that students were being recognized. Students also enjoyed the food and some even said that the ceremony was fun.
Overall, 48.7% of students polled did like the award ceremony while the other 51.3% were not impressed by the award ceremony.
“I think it was unorganized. We all were kind of lost,” said CHS senior Yesenia Arroyo.
Arroyo rated the event a solid 6 out of 10 because she enjoyed spending time with her friends and didn’t think that the ceremony was bad.
“My personal opinion was [that] it was very unorganized, and staff was not prepared for it,” said CHS senior Zayda Cabatingan. “I gave it a 2 because they told us to line up and it was very loud and crowded and every student was in every place.”
“Personally, I will give it a 7 because we were on stage and the only issue was being a bit unorganized,” said CHS senior Ceasar Vasquez. “Overall, everything was nice and [I] would attend again [if it was] organized.”
It must be acknowledged that organizing an event for high school students is definitely a challenge.
CHS senior Aidean Cervantes said, “When you [have] a whole bunch of high schoolers in a small room, you can't expect anything but chaos.”
The idea of acknowledging students for the hard work is a great one even if the outcome was less than desired.
