In the U.S., the Super Bowl is the annual league championship game of the National Football League. Going into this Superbowl, there were a lot of disagreements and controversy. It was the Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) versus the 15-2 Kansas City Chiefs (15-2), two teams that were hungry for the win. The Chiefs were attempting to win the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year.

In the end, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 40-22 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Carson High senior Nate Ruan expresses his thoughts on Super Bowl LIX.

“I knew the Eagles were going to win,” said Ruan, “[but] I was rooting for the Chiefs because I am a Cowboys fan, and the Eagles are in our division.”

CHS senior Jaiden Macias had different thoughts.

“I thought the Chiefs were for sure going to win easily,” said Macias. “I thought they were going to make history and win 3 years straight.”

The potential to have a 3-year winning streak brought in a lot of viewers and excitement. Behind this year’s big game there was a lot of hype, and another reason why: the halftime show.

“The halftime show was the only reason I watched it to be honest,” said CHS senior Alex Dorado. “The halftime show was good. I was so hyped that Kendrick Lamar called out Drake and sang Not Like Us”.

In fact, some might argue that Lamar’s performance was the highlight of the entire night as the game that started off as a nail-biter ended being a blowout by the Eagles.
