As Donald Trump is now in his second term in office, his agenda raises significant concerns among various communities and experts. His plans include aggressive immigration policies, citizenship reforms, and a rollback of climate regulations, all of which have sparked widespread debate.
One of Trump's primary goals is to deport undocumented immigrants. His first term was the implementation of strict immigration policies, but he plans to take it further. Critics argue that these measures could tear families apart, disrupt communities, and create a terrible climate fear among immigrant populations.
In particular, Trump wants to deport 10 million immigrants despite the fact that these very individuals are the ones who grow and pick our crops, and are the very people who put food on our tables.
Carson High School junior Armando Villaseno said, “It's really sad how many families will be separated and many children will lose their parents.”
The focus on mass deportations has been condemned for its potential humanitarian impact, with many fearing that it could lead to violations of human rights and due process.
Trump has also expressed a desire to end birthright citizenship, a move that would go against the U.S constitution. Birthright citizenship guaranteed by the 14th amendment that grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S soil. Ending this could make millions of people stateless and undermine the principle of equal rights.
CHS freshman Roshell Hernandez claimed, “I believe that ending birthright citizenship is really unnecessary and dumb. If they were born here then they should be considered a citizen. Taking that away will make a lot of mess and Trump should focus on other important things.”
In his second term, Trump also plans to continue dismantling climate regulations, which he views as an obstacle to economic growth. He has already rolled back numerous environmental protections, and further movement could have consequences for the environment.
Trump's second-term is filled with controversial plans that could have far-reaching negative impacts.
