The PAMA (Performing Arts Musical Arts) academy here at Carson Complex is known to be more creative and artistic. Something that PAMA academy has always had a reputation for is their incredible theater program; the program produces quality plays every year.
Last year, their work in In the Heights was widely publicized and celebrated throughout the complex. Social media posts and word of mouth verified that the play was a huge success.
This year there will be another major production- Hairspray, based on the iconic 2007 movie.
“We will be doing one major production this year,” said Mrs. Kadota, “my expectations for the production of Hairspray in March is that we have a full cast and full tech crew and that the students that work the show are inspired to look at these types of careers for themselves.”
For students that are interested in taking advantage of being a part of this incredible production, meeting with Mrs. Kadota and understanding the responsibilities is what is required.
“Anybody can join, [including] ESET [and] GBLG. Most of my tech students are ESET students, [and] they don't even take my class,” Mrs. Kadota explained, “[the play is] open [to] the whole school. Pretty soon there's going to be announcements to go see Mrs. Kodata in room C7.”
The production team needs the support of the entire complex in order for it to be financially successful.
“We get zero money from the district. We don't get any money from the schools, [so] we have to raise the money on our own,” said Mrs. Kadota.
Exactly how can people help to support the theater program?
“Thankfully, we have an organization called PAL, which is the PAMA Advocacy League. [This] is a group of parents, and they have a board, 501C3, [that] they do a lot of the fundraising for us [with], off campus,” Mrs. Kadota explained, “there’s [also] a karaoke night [where students pay] $10.00 to get in.”
Don’t miss this year’s production in March 2023, Hairspray, which is sure to include the incredible set designs, talented acting and singing of various students, and incredible musical ensemble headed by Mr. Anderson, that we are used to seeing from our amazing theater department.
