Carson High School has decided on its Spring musical, and it is the much-loved West Side Story! It is being performed on March 21, 22, and 23 of 2024 at the California State University Dominguez Hills Theater.
Currently, CHS students are hard at work preparing for their first workshops.
Need a synopsis? West Side Story takes place in the harsh streets of New York, home of two street gangs- the Jets and the Sharks. Soon after, one of the gang members falls in love with a rival's sister causing a serious conundrum. In short, West Side Story is a modern-day Romeo and Juliet.
Carson Thespian president and CHS senior Kian Segovia exclaimed, “West Side Story is a great and meaningful musical. It is a fun process!”
If you are interested in auditioning for the musical, vocal, and dance workshops will be held in C7. Vocal workshops will be held on October 24, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., while musical workshops will be held on November 3 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Finally, dance workshops will be held on October 29 from 11:00-2:00 p.m. These workshops are open to anyone as it is a good experience to prepare for the upcoming musical.
Taking an opportunity to be a part of the program is well worth it.
Mrs. Kadota, Theater/Tech teacher at CHS stated, “Anybody should join [especially] if you love to dance [as the] choreography is outstanding.”
Mrs. Barryte, former CHS Theater teacher added, “It’s going to be absolutely amazing. You never know what you’re going to end up with.”
All in all, this musical is very eventful. CHS has held many entertaining musicals in the past, and moving on to yet another one will truly leave you in amazement. Be prepared for the lovely singing and fun dancing, as well as an eye-catching plot. This will sure be a blast!
