The Carson High Girls Volleyball Team made a comeback with their first win of the pre-season against Grant High School (Van Nuys) on Tuesday, August 30th. Freshman, JV, and Varsity won all of their games with a score of 3-0.
The Grant Lancers traveled to us on Tuesday making this the first game the team has won since the start of the 2022-2023 pre-season, leaving The Colts overall win-loss record at 1- 2, and Grants at 0-1.
The freshman game began at 2:30 pm and continued into the varsity game ending at 7:00 pm. The freshman team won their game 2 sets to 1, and the junior varsity game started at 4:00 pm, ending with a 2-1 victory.
For varsity, The Colts won the first 2 sets. The Lancers won the third set causing the game to go from 3 sets to 5. The crowd was on pins and needles as Grant and Carson were neck and neck at the end of the fourth set with the score at 2 sets to 2. The Colts cemented the final set winning 15-8 giving varsity their first win of the pre-season.
“We felt pretty good after our first win! It was a pretty tough game and we tied with Grant the first four sets but came back in the fifth,” Academies of Education and Empowerment junior Arabella Ober said, “but, of course, we all feel like we could’ve played better and taken them in three sets.”
Tyler Sompa, the head girls volleyball coach of 2 years, expressed how proud he was of the team and how he believed the team has potential to beat San Pedro High School.
“ ...it’ll take us playing as a team and just staying disciplined,” said Coach Sompa.
The team has a promising season ahead, with varsity’s most recent win against their rivals, San Pedro High School.
Admission for students with ID is $4.00 and $6.00 for students without, as well as fans. Remember to come out to support the girls’ volleyball team this season we hope to see you there!
