Are Stanley Cups Dangerous?

By Adrian Paredes, Stafff Writer | February 20th, 2024

Stanley Cups have found themselves in controversy and have been accused of containing lead which leaves many worried that they own a Stanley Cup. Additionally Stanley Cups only contain lead at the bottom of the cup and can only be exposed when the cup is severely damaged which is rare but isn't impossible.

It is stated that the liquid being held inside of the cup doesn't come in contact with the lead that is at the bottom of the cup. This means that the lead is not affecting anyone but can only be accessed if the bottom of the cup is removed. The chances of being affected by the lead is slim to 0.

Although, the lead has no effect on anyone consuming the product it still leads to speculation as to why the lead is implemented into the product since it's known that you can't come in contact to lead. It is said that the lead is used as a vacuum insulation and is what keeps the cup together.

Pooja Pillay, a senior at Carson High School (CHS) states,”I think the lead being found is a big deal because many people are being put at risk and can affect them in the long term. Although chances of you getting affected by the lead is low its still worrisome to know that you can be hurt by a stanley cup.”

The company has been facing many lawsuits because they are misleading their consumers about the presence of lead being in Stanley Cups. This means that lead being in the cups will have to eventually be removed for the sake of the business or no one will want to buy the product anymore due to it being dangerous.

Mia Sanchez, a senior at CHS states,”I think the lawsuit is needed because many people are investing their money for a stanley cup and aren't aware of the harm it can cause them later. I think the company will have to remove the lead in order to keep their business running or they will eventually have no more consumers since they aren't able to be trusted by their own consumers.”

Stanley Cups have passed their peak in population who knew the downfall of them would come so fast by misleading customers and putting them in danger. Who knows what they will do counter this situation.
