The 40th MTV Video Music Award took place On September 11, 2024.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of “Best in the Music Video Medium” to the channel MTV.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that this year’s music awards ¨averaged 4.09 million viewers across MTV, 11 other Paramount-owned cable channels and UniMas…an 8 percent gain over the 2023 VMAs (3.78 million viewers).¨
This year VMAs has got everyone's attention since there were a couple of people attending their first VMAs, but the focus was especially on Taylor Swift. She won 7 awards including video of the year with Sabrina Carpenter for their song “Espresso¨; Swift also took home awards for best collaboration, song of summer, best direction, best editing, artist of the year, and best pop.
Carson High School senior Tia Gipson stated, ¨I really liked Sabrina Carpenter’s performance [because] her vocals are amazing.¨
Many people love Sabrina Carpenter’s music, but also her outfit choices for her performances. Her unique ensembles include outfits with heart shapes that are blinged out. Carpenter rose to fame because of her roles in the show ¨Girl Meets World¨ and ¨Milo Murphy's Law¨.
The VMAs invited so many new guests this year including Rauw Alejandro who is a Puerto Rican singer. Alejandro performed Something of West Side Story, sang ¨Diluvio¨ from his 2023 album. ¨Cosa Nuestra¨ is the title for his upcoming album which many fans are excited about.
¨This year I loved the VMAs because they were very diverse and they had so many cultures. It was beautiful,¨ commented Mrs. Moralez, ¨ I liked the different representations that you finally see that wasn't shown in the past years.
