Carson High School’s girls rugby team defeated Warren High by a blowout of 80-0, making their senior night extra special for the seniors. The ceremony allowed the seven girls to be announced while they walked down the field with their closest family members. They were also showered with flower leis, balloons, and candy.
Coming into the week of senior night Academies of Education and Empowerment Tayla Hannemann-Puaina stated,“One goal for this game would be to put on for the city and show everyone our talent and who we are.”
Undoubtedly, with every sport comes both trials and successes. Some seniors experienced injuries throughout the season but the girls managed to push through and get back on track as soon as possible. Making it a point to keep their undefeated record alive, the girls work hard both in the weightroom and on the field to prepare themselves for gameday.
As their season is coming to an end, the bittersweet feeling starts to set in more and more for the seniors on the team.
Carson High School senior, Manaia Moala said, “It’s very emotional with it being my last season. I feel like this season is going by faster than usual.”
AEE Senior, Ahnea Aupiu added, “Being a senior who graduates in 5 months, I am a little sad. All I can think about is leaving my family and the beginning of paying bills.”
However, through all the different emotions senior year brings, the goal of the team has maintained the same. The seniors have shared that their main goal this season is to win the High School Championship and to enjoy the rest of their time playing with each other. What most may not know is that this senior class has been playing rugby together for about 2-4 years now. So one thing said to be missed for sure is being able to play with each other and having that same chemistry on the field.
