The National Basketball Association (NBA) season of 2019-2020 has begun with it being the 74th season. The regular season began on October 22, 2019 and will end on April 15, 2020. With the NBA season starting, Los Angeles fans are hyped to see how their favorite teams and players do. After a long summer of trades and drafts, NBA players are set and ready to work towards the championship. California teams like the LA Lakers traded Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks for Anthony Davis and the LA Clippers got Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The Golden State Warriors haven’t disappeared on us, but they aren’t expected to continue their mastery over the rest of the league following a run of three titles in five years. Along with the anxiousness to see how everyone’s favorite teams will do this season, most people are anxious to see how all the teams will do with the gains and losses of some players.
“I’m not really going for teams but wanting to see how they play” Carson High School teacher Mr.Watkins explained, “I’m looking at the Warriors to see how bad they’re going to be compared to last year.”
Although teamwork, skills, etc are important for the NBA stars, health is a big thing they need to keep up with. LA Lakers player, Anthony Davis (AD) sprained his thumb during a game in China. Rockets player, Gerald Green also suffered a broken left foot and is expected to miss up to two months as a result. Injuries play a big part in what may or may not come in the upcoming season.
CHS basketball coach, Shaw, added, “If the Lakers can stay healthy, they’ll probably make the playoffs. Same thing with the Clippers because they have two of the top players playing.”
Preseason games gave us insiders and prediction contents that flooded the media. Will Giannis Antetokounmpo wins another MVP award? Predictions vary for many players. It wouldn’t be a big surprise if LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, or Anthony Davis take the award this season. Rookie of the year award is another big one that many people wonder about. Will Zion Williamson or Dennis Smith Jr. take Rookie of the Year? Along with these awards include, most improved, defensive player of the year, etc. The upcoming season holds many things that fans, family, and even NBA players themselves look forward to.
