A big congratulations to our very own Carson High School senior, Ashley Cubos, for winning the 2019-2020 Youth of the Year Award. The Youth of the Year Award celebrates young people, ages 14 to 18, for the commitment to community service, academic success, good character and citizenship, and establishing long-term goals. Cubos was chosen to be the representative for the Boys and Girls Club of Carson giving her the chance to compete in competitions against other club representatives.
“One of the biggest obstacles that I feel everybody faced was actually completing the application. We had to write three essays, do the resume, and practice interview questions,” Cubos states, “But the most difficult one was developing the speech because the application came back literally within a month before the competition here at home, meaning we all had to write our speeches within the span of three days.”
Cubos won the first competition against the Boys and Girls Club of King Drew, held at Carson City Hall and plans to move on to the final state competition going against representatives from boys and girls clubs everywhere.
“She puts a lot of time and effort into working with the boys and girls club.” Another member from the club shared.
With Cubos’ peers all sharing a collective positive view on her as well as her work ethic, she proves herself to be well deserving of this award. May her success serve as motivation for us all to apply ourselves to the fullest extent in all of our endeavors.
