Belcalis Almanzar, known as Cardi B, is a television/social media star and hip hop artist. She was born and raised in the Bronx. Cardi B started off as an exotic dancer, and soon afterwards, she became an internet celebrity on social media.

In 2015, she was on VH1’s reality TV show “Love and Hip Hop: New York”.

In 2017, Cardi B had signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic records. Her debut single for the record label was “Bodak Yellow” which was number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Many people love her music and her personality, but there are those many who are not Cardi B fans.

Kaitlyn Trapp, a 12th grader from Carson High School, said, “Her music is overplayed, and she seems cocky about herself.” Other people think that Cardi B will just be a one hit wonder. Not many knew of her music prior to her sign to Atlantic Records.

Academies of Education and Empowerment senior Aaron Jelks is one of many who didn’t knew Cardi B before Atlantic Records.

“No, I only know her song Bodak Yellow,” Aaron said.

Still, the rapper has plenty of fans.

Senior CHS student Caprice Jones said, “I love her because she so funny and real.”

Caprice also listed other songs she likes by Cardi including Red Barz and Back It Up.

Cardi B will continue to grind; she might even take over the industry or maybe she is just a one hit wonder. Only time will tell.
