On November 23, 2019, Carson Complex’s Marching Blue Thunder took part in a competition at East LA College, where they competed with different high school marching bands within LAUSD. This year, the chosen theme was magic, which enables MBT to perform their title song “Believe,” to emphasize a magical experience for their audience. The performance songs included “The Greatest Showman”, “This Magic Moment”, and “Don’t Stop Believin”.
Carson High School senior Angel Vicente said, “The experience was [remarkably] fun; I got to meet many new bands within LAUSD, [but more importantly,] our Marching Blue Thunder took sixth place in the competition.”
Academy of Medical Arts senior Elizsa Montoya said, “I got to see other bands compete and experience what it’s like to perform in front of judges.”
CHS senior Rianne Habal acknowledged that although it is her “last year, it was very enjoyable to see the other bands perform. I feel like we did alright, [as] we did better than last year; we ended up getting [the] sixth place.”
Besides placing well, the competition was also taken as a learning experience for many who attended. Comparing themselves to other bands, seeing the unique formations, the way the routine flowed, and the overall performance aspect was all valuable. These are just some of the things that made the performance a success. Congratulations to MBT, the band director Mr. Anderson, and the advisor for tall flags Mrs. Wong, for continuing to grow as a performing team.
