Who are BTS, you may be asking? Well, for those with that question, BTS is a K-pop boy group from South Korea. The group was formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013. The group consists of members Jungkook, Jimin, V, Suga, RM, Jin, and J-hope. Originally, the group’s genre of music would focus on Hip-Hop, but since then, their music has expanded into different genres of music. The group has earned the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Bill Board Global 200. They are the first all Korean act to make it to those ranks with their Grammy nominated song “Dynamite”, released in 2020. They’ve also won 283 rewards of 499 nominations.

One of the group’s most dynamic endeavors is that they have been able to influence the way masculinity is seen in South Korea.

During the summer, the group went on a temporary hiatus to give members the chance to be able to work and explore on their own individual music, as well as create opportunities to collaborate with other creators.

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, BTS was reunited again to perform at a concert in Busan to support South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo to delight of fans.

Postconcert announced that the group will be taking yet another hiatus-one reason being their obligation to fulfill their military duties in South Korea. South Korea’s law states that every male must serve a twenty-one-month term of service to the military by their twenty-eighth birthday. The first member of the group to enlist in the military will be Jin, as soon as his schedule for his solo release has concluded at the end of October. As for the rest of the members, it is said that they plan to carry out their military duties based on the members' individual plans. The members have expressed how they look forward to reconvening the group around the year 2025.

The break has caused fans to react in a variety of ways.

Carson High School junior Tuloto Tuloto said, “I support them and their decision!”

CHS junior Julianna Carballo said, “I’m kinda sad about it…”

The promised reunification has fans hopeful.

“I do believe that after their military service they will reunite as a group, they are very loyal to their fans and will definitely keep their word,” said CHS junior Talia Nixon.
