Captain Marvel, put simply, is a fun action comedy from Marvel Studios. It is the first female-led standalone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and was appropriately released on National Women’s Day. Brie Larson stars as Veers, the titular Captain Marvel, who is a member of Starforce Command, the police force of the Kree Empire. The film is set in 90s, way before many MCU movies are set.
The film pits Veers against the Skrulls, a shape-shifting alien race trying to get their hands on a powerful technology capable of ending the Kree-Skrull War. The audience is also treated to the return of Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury, a fan-favorite of the MCU.
Brie Larson did a good job bringing Captain Marvel to life, as she was an absolute joy to watch. People who haven’t seen other MCU movies or that haven’t read any of the comic book source material don’t need to worry, no prior viewing or reading is required. There were, however, plenty of cameos, references, and easter eggs within the movie to satisfy the Marvel and pop culture faithful. The movie’s expertly choreographed fight scenes and well-placed jokes are sure to please most moviegoers.
