With a new year starting off and their last year present, 19 Seniors signed up from the Carson and the school of AEE took a trip to Catalina Island. They went for 3 days in January, Friday the 25th until Sunday the 27th. The point of the trip was to get to know more about ocean life and to open up to new faces. They did many different activities, which included snorkeling in the day and at night, an astronomy hike, labs, swam with tiger sharks, and many other fun activities. The snorkeling consisted of the kids going to swim with leopard sharks and they got see bioluminescent sea animals. They were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins while testing the ocean for things such as visibility and temperature, and were also taken for an astronomy hike, where the students viewed the night sky and learned about constellations.

Carlos Galvan, a senior from the Academy of Education and Empowerment said, “ We did loads of fun activities! I really enjoyed the dancing bridge, it’s a bridge where we had to dance across it and everyone would do the funniest of dances while crossing it.” Ashley Ponce De Leon, Carson High School senior stated, “My favorite part of the trip was meeting new people and getting out of my comfort zone.” The seniors really enjoyed the trip, they all opened up and talked to new faces. The trip also gave them a fun experience to learn more about ocean life, and to be able to interact with the animals in the ocean. Ms. Hart, one of the main coordinator’s explained, “My favorite part of the field trip was actually seeing the kids talk about the trip and how much they enjoyed it”. She also specified, “The 19 students are getting some of their refund back, pretty much getting their whole trip payed off.” For the juniors heading into their Senior year, although it’s not scheduled yet, there will be a meeting in April. This will be a good opportunity for all students to meet new people, and to be able to interact with marine life, and to learn more about the ocean.
