Carson Complex has been in a state of mourning, following the news of the Coach Kelly’s passing. After finding out that he had passed by way of a heart attack, students, teachers, and staff recalled their best and brightest memories with the man. Students and staff throughout our school were very saddened by the loss of such an inspiring, uplifting, and talented coach. Coach Kelly was the junior varsity softball coach. According to many of his players, he always equipped them with what they needed to not only find success in their games, but success in life as well.
Academy of Education and Empowerment senior Frankie Mendoza said, “He was very determined to work with the girls. He was supportive of everyone and made everyone want to be better.”
Coach Kelly had been a member of the softball coaching staff for a very long time. In his years of coaching CHS softball, it is very clear that he made a lasting impact on the sport. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any news as to if there will be a new coach replacing Coach Kelly just yet. His passing is still new to the students, staff, and parents, so it is believed that replacements are not exactly in the school’s mind.
CHS senior, Emily Phoeuth. emphasized the scope of those who felt Coach Kelly’s passing, saying, “When I found out what had happened through my old teammates, I started tearing up and went straight to my mom and even she started tearing up. That right there already shows a glimpse of Coach Kelly’s impact. Not only did he create bonds with just the softballs girls, but our families too.”
As softball season progresses, send your sincerest condolences, prayers, and sympathies to his family, team, and friends through their time of mourning. Carson Complex will continue to support and cheer the softball team on as they strive to make Coach Kelly proud.
