Construction at Carson High School

By Genesis Trejo Rangel, Staff Writer | October 28, 2022

Carson High School students have noticed that there is a lot of construction in and around the school. Many students have wondered why this has been happening and have also been complaining about the fact that a large portion of school is still under construction.

For example, Carson High School senior Angel Sanchez stated, “I feel that the construction being done around campus is very annoying and makes me walk farther to the restrooms.”

Many students have complained about restrooms being closed down because they are under construction resulting in no restrooms being open.

Particular places that students use regularly that are under construction are the water fountains, restrooms, the football track, the bleachers, AEE restrooms and the area near the library.

CHS junior Ena Garcia stated, “[It’s] just a whole annoying deal because [we] need to use the restrooms and get around campus, so it's understandable why they are complaining. I don't see why they shouldn't complain; it is very tedious that’s for sure.”

There are some students who are more understanding of the construction process.

CHS senior Issac Barriga said, “I think it will be beneficial because we are going to have nicer bathrooms, and the school campus will be [better] looking.”

Some of the construction is happening to meet legal requirements.

“Right now, the majority of the construction is ADA compliance which is the American with Disabilities Act,” said CHS Assistant Principal Mr. Medinilla in regards to student speculation about the construction. “It is required by federal law [and] designed to make things accessible for students and adults with disabilities so they are putting [in] new door dobs, new handles, toilets, or countertops. This is required by federal law to make sure everyone has equal access.”
