There was a wild high-speed chase in neighboring Orange County. On November 9th, Johnny Anchodo served as the protagonist in a one-and-a-half-hour speed chase.
It started in Orange County and ended in Los Angeles at a Hacienda Heights gas station where LA sheriff’s deputies opened fire. The whole high-speed chase began when Fullerton police pulled Anchondo over for “vehicle violations”.
He tried to take off on foot until he stole a parked van. Anchondo then dumped the van in Whitter and broke into a house, stealing the keys to a pickup truck. The truck owner attempted to trap him by closing the metal gate, but he drove right through it.
It took about 40 minutes before Anchodo hit Gal Ave St. in East San Gabriel Valley and crashed into four cars, eventually ending up at the gas station with his car breaking down.
After a few moments, officers approached the vehicle with shields and guns drawn and arrested him. Johnny Anchondo is now facing 25 charges. He will face 54 years in prison if convicted.
“Honestly, this scares me. As a teen driver, I am always afraid of losing my life, especially at such a young age, because of people like this,” said Carson High School junior Dannie Melton. “It also scares me to leave my car parked outside because the suspect changed cars throughout the chase.”
Melton isn’t the only nervous driver.
CHS junior Sabrina Padilla said, “I was already nervous about driving, but now that I have seen how others can be on the road, it makes me feel scared and [like] I should take more precautions.”
If nothing else, this can be a reminder to be cautious while driving, especially to young and inexperienced drivers.
