What is Hurricane Ian, and why is it important? According to worldvision.org, Hurricane Ian is

a devastating storm that destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings belonging to the community of Pennsylvania and Florida. The website also states that with winds starting at 155 mph, Hurricane Ian is the second major hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season, and it also knocked out power to more than 1.5 million residents.

“I think it’s devastating; it’s brutal to see all of the destruction on CNN,” said Carson High School senior

But what truly makes the hurricane unique?

“I think it’s devastating; it’s one of the strongest hurricanes we’ve had. It makes me feel that we need to be more aware and prepared,” CHS chemistry and physics teacher Mr. Quinlan said.

This type of natural disaster doesn’t usually happen.

“Usually we don’t have them here because the weather pattern doesn’t lead to the ocean,[and it] doesn’t generate that type of current [with] the mixture of cold water, warm water, and the air too,” Mr. Quinlad said.

Governor Gavin Newsom said in a release on Thursday: “People here in California are sending a five-person team of experts to Florida to help after Hurricane Ian left a path of destruction across the state. The team will help those displaced by the storm. California stands with the people of Florida.”

“Our state is all too familiar with the impact of natural disasters, and we stand ready to provide any needed aid and support to the communities impacted by this horrific storm,” said Governor Newsom.
