Coach Ray, one of the most influential men to coach the game of basketball here at Carson High School, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017. Although some students and faculty at CHS did not know him, those who did were very inspired by the positive words he left behind.

Coach Ray has affected many players here on Carson High’s campus like Taylor Edwards, an AEE junior on the varsity basketball team.

Taylor shared, “He was always helpful. When ever it seemed like I was confused or lost on the court, he showed me where to go.”

Mr. Ray coached here for 5 years as an assistant varsity coach and head JV coach. He never complained about the position he had nor did he seek power over the coaches. Coach Ray changed lives and perspectives by simply being there for anyone chasing their dreams.

Kayla Valencia, a CHS junior also expressed how she felt about everything Coach Ray taught her as a player on and off the court.

Kayla expressed, “Honestly, if it wasn’t for Coach Ray, I would’ve quit basketball a long time ago, but he was so positive and motivating. He wanted everyone to succeed and become the best they could be. He is definitely one coach I will always remember.”

Varsity basketball Coach Shaw had a few words to say regarding this tragedy.

Coach Shaw stated, “Very good guy, always willing to help kids out. He will be well missed. Although he was a girls coach, he helped two of my boys tremendously to take their game to the next level.”

The Carson High Complex truly appreciates everything Coach Ray has done for us. Our condolences are with his family and friends. We are thankful that someone so influential was a part of Carson High’s athletic program and also a big part of students lives.

Once a Colt, always a Colt.
