Between the several hours of Christmas shopping and family bonding, many people choose to include volunteering as a part of their holiday traditions. In fact, numerous organizations are often created just to give back to the community and those in need during the holidays. However, volunteering is an act that should not only take place during the holiday season, but every other season of the year as well.
“Volunteering is something that’s important year round, not just during the holidays. There are always people in need and giving back to your community can give you a sense of satisfaction and pride. Working in your community can really make a difference and more people need to be aware if that,” states Academy of Medical Arts senior, Angela Ambrosio. She shares that joining clubs and organizations allowed her to be an active member of her community.
“I joined CSF my second semester of tenth grade, and because of that, I have been able to find new ways to help my community. It makes me feel good that I can be a part of something so important,” Ambrosio admitted.
There is always something to do to give back to your community, during the holidays and every other day of the year as well. Whether it’s to protect and care for the environment, or to help people in need. Volunteering should never be considered as a seasonal occupation, but rather an act that occurs all throughout the year.
Academies of Education and Empowerment senior, Liliana Rodriguez, also shared how CSF is the reason she has opened to community service.
“Volunteering is a great way to get involved and make a difference in someone’s life. One of the biggest events we do in CSF is feeding the homeless which takes place every Sunday. I like it because it is an event that continues beyond the holiday season. It’s always the season of giving,” says Rodriguez.
Although the holidays are over, there is one aspect of the holiday season that should always remain: the desire to give and to spread love and support throughout your community. Volunteer work is much more appreciated than you’d think and a great way to be an active member of your community.
