Kali Uchis has officially released her fourth studio album and second Spanish language album titled Orquideas. Inspired by the sensual allure of Colombia’s national flower, the orchid, Orquídeas traverses multiple Latin genres including reggaeton, dembow, bolero and salsa furthering Uchis’ connection to her Colombian roots.
The album consists of 14 tracks and features various artists including Peso Pluma, Karol g, JT, Rauw Alejandro, and El Afa.
Orquideas is an album that is refreshingly rose-tinted. Uchis is able to showcase her full vocal range throughout many of the triumphant songs such as her lead single “Te mata”. The project's tracks truly wear its heart on its sleeve, creating a sultry and addictive feeling.
The album has become so rare and special because of the vibrance and romance that it eludes to. In a world that seems too gray, Uchis has picked up a paintbrush and splashed away colors across an entire canvas.
Orquideas also gave Uchis the opportunity to show her versatility and her ability to reinvent and bring older genres back to life.
The album, as of now, has become a hit as it has debut at #2 on the Billboard charts and became the first Spanish-language album by a woman to debut at that high of a ranking.
Orquideas has gained mass attention from the media and is being shown so much love by many fans around the world.
Carson High School junior Kennedy Young stated, “I don't even know Spanish, but her voice sounds so beautiful which is why it's grown on me so much”.
Kali Uchis has even inspired many fans to learn Spanish in order to understand the meaning behind her beautiful songs and lyrics.
CHS senior Catherine Napoles stated, “I've been trying to translate the lyrics and learn them because I feel like the lyrics tell a better story behind her voice, and you can feel the emotion you know.”
All in all, the album is a 10/10 listen that takes you on an adventure and provides you with a listening experience that not many artists can provide. Orquideas is now available on all streaming platforms.
