Loco For Coco

In the world of Disney, diversity and appreciation for various cultures has grown tremendously over the years. Disney films have expressed multiple cultures to set an example for children, letting them know to be proud of who they are. On November 22, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios have released their newest cultural masterpiece, Coco, which portrays Hispanic/Latino heritage.

“I thought it was a very beautiful movie, from the visual aspects to the overall story. I really appreciated how they represented Hispanic culture with El Día de Los Muertos and the honoring of our ancestors, but most importantly, the movie was able to represent the importance of family that is shared amongst all cultures and ethnic backgrounds. The main character, Miguel, was able to gain a deeper appreciation for his family and heritage while still remaining true to himself and his passion for music, something Disney Pixar was able to show beautifully. 10/10 I would recommend for everyone to watch and bring some tissues because I cried so much!” said AEE senior Julissa Real.

As our society continues to grow in multiple aspects, appreciation from our biggest influences help us understand how to appreciate all cultures.

“I’m really glad that Disney decided to make a movie that was about Hispanic culture because in today’s society, hispanics are judged and discriminated against a lot. Since our newest president is constantly putting down Hispanics, it’s so important to show the younger generations that your culture is something you should embrace, rather than be ashamed of,” stated AMA sophomore Romario Jimenez.

Disney’s newest film, Coco, has been a huge success since its release and will most definitely be monumental for many years. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is highly recommended that you do.
