Making Daylight Savings Permanent

By Eduardo Reyes, Staff Writer | October 28, 2022

About 30 states have voted to end the double-yearly/annual changing of clocks. Yet, in America, the law is still in place.

According to an article from Reuters, “Pallone cited a 2019 poll that found 71% of Americans prefer to no longer switch their clocks twice a year.” This percentage is very understandable. Many people want there to be more daylight to be able to do more things throughout the day.

Carson High School stage tech. teacher Mrs. Kadota said, “It would affect me in a good way because it would give me more time to get things done and more time in my garden outside while it’s still light.”

Many Americans, like Mrs. Kadota, feel as though DST should be made permanent. Some even think it could prevent some car accidents or health problems in general.

“Supporters say the change could prevent a slight uptick in car crashes that typically occurs around the time changes and point to studies showing a small increase in the rate of heart attacks and strokes soon after the time change,” according to Reuters.

Because the idea has gained so much support, this should be the last year that we have to roll the clock back. Getting rid of DST will be beneficial for nearly all Americans.
