Netflix is internationally known for its streaming services, providing popular shows and movies for their customers and fanbase. But now, these customers get to experience Netflix in a whole new way.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix Inc. plans to open stores in different locations where fans can immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite TV shows, shop for clothing and merchandise, eat themed food, and much more!
The streaming service plans on opening the first two stores (deemed the Netflix House) in the U.S. around 2025 and are planning to expand the concept of this new production around the world.
The success of the company depends on many factors.
“I believe they’ll gain a lot of media traction for this but I don’t know if it’ll stand the test of time,” said Carson High School senior Sophia Bertulano. “We’ve seen what happened with Blockbuster, having those stores open but then completely being shut down. Netflix could be different since the media is so widespread nowadays, and depending on their locations and who they want their audience to be, that could determine the success rate.”
Netflix has been growing because of its investments and ability to market its fanbase and build communities through its services. The new stores are to be used as an innovative way of continuing to promote their brand through merch, food, and the experience as a whole highlighting the many movies and shows customers watch today.
Although this seems exciting on Netflix’s part, Netflix as a streaming service has many issues for some users and that is why there are some questions and concerns regarding this new project and if it will truly keep their existing customers happy, or better yet, bring in new ones.
“I think they’re trying to find new ways to keep their customers,” said CHS staff member Ms. Avalos. “They started that thing where you can’t share your accounts anymore, so they’re losing customers that way. They might be using this as a way to keep customers and stay in business.”
Despite the speculations of whether or not this project will be practical in the future, it’s still a fun thing that Netflix lovers of all kinds can experience themselves when the time comes.
Specific details are yet to be discovered and potential locations are still being discussed, but Netflix has already created pop-up locations in places such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Chicago showcasing the possibilities of what these new and improved stores will have to offer.
