Hey Carson Colts!! A show called “Our Town” written by Thronton Wilder just closed this past weekend in the MPR.. Its was performed by Carson High School Drama students and produced by Carson High School Stage Tech students. Carson High Band members also performed during the show. The tickets were $10.00 and sold at the student store at lunch, they are also sold them at the door for $12.00. They performed on Thursday, Dec.5 at 7:00pm, Friday, Dec.6 at 7:00pm, Saturday, Dec.7 at 7:00pm and Sunday, Dec.8 at 2:00pm.

Our Town is a 3- act play that covers each monumental stage of life. Taking place in the early 1900s, the audience gets to watch two families and many other characters go through each act: Daily Life, Love and Marriage, and Afterlife. All of the acts are narrated by the Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager. “Our Town” explores relationships between married couples, young couples, and the members of the quiet, small town of Grover’s Corners. From small town scandals, to feeding chickens in the morning, this play gives a fairly accurate view on how the ordinary people of the time period, lived their quaint lives.

“It’s [the rehearsal process] a lot of long hours, and a little stressful, but I enjoy it!” said CHS junior Samantha Saldana. Samantha plays Emily Webb, who much of the play focuses on. Samantha was asked to play the role halfway into the three month rehearsal process and tackled it like a pro, conquering over 114 individual lines.

“The shows grows on you and we worked so hard. I really hope people enjoy the show.” Saldana said with a smile.

During the three month rehearsal process, over 30 students worked tirelessly to put on an iconic show known worldwide. With recent rehearsals extending until 7pm almost every night, it’s truly impressive how well all of the actors, tech crew and band members are handling the pressure of memorizing lines, movements and music, in addition to balancing their grades. “People should come see the play because it teaches them about life and shows them a new perspective of our community and possibly life.” said CHS senior Diana Ramos, who plays Mrs. Gibbs.

Ramos suggests that students come to the show, “Some can relate to the play, especially when the characters [George and Emily] fall in love. It’s good for parents too because Emily’s mom [Mrs. Webb] is sad that her daughter is going to leave her.” Parents often dread the day when their now adult, children leave the nest. “Our Town” touches the heartstrings of many and after only one night of performances, they have received many rave reviews. There were even reports that the show was so powerful it made a few of the audience members cry!

Carson High Drama, Stage Tech and Band all worked extremely hard on this show and hoped everyone enjoyed it. All three of the departments are looking forward to working together again to produce the spring musical, “In the Heights” in March!
