Donald Trump and Twitter. They’re just like Jordan and Pippen. Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Batman and Robin. Just about any famous duo you can think of. However, they aren’t necessarily known for the right reasons.
To be clear, Twitter is not an individual like the three others listed. Rather, the comparison being made is that in each of the duos listed, the former uses the latter as a go to, something they can fall back on. No one can do this any better than Mr. 45 does.
Another thing that these duos have in common is when you look in depth in the former’s career, life, facts about them, etc., the latter’s name will appear countless times. Basically, the latter will be a part of the former’s identity. And when Donald Trump’s term is over and his presidency is looked at in depth, his use of his personal Twitter account will be a part of his identity.
Now, the reason that Trump and Twitter aren’t the greatest power couple is because of the ridiculous amount of controversy that our president sparks through his Twitter tweets. It’s gotten to a point where when he tweeted about having a moment of silence for the victims of the L.V. shooting, responses on other social media platforms were largely negative. Even though Trump’s tweet was supposed to be positive, it was met with backlash because his reputation is one that induces disaster.
Within Carson High School, the harsh feelings towards Donald are just as strong as the rest of the outside world.
“He needs to act his age. He’s stooping down to the level of people talking about him,” said Isaiah Atuatasi, a CHS junior.
Many people also dislike Trump’s usage of Twitter because he uses the social media platform to casually express himself. Regardless of whether what he tweets is offensive or not, just the fact that he even uses social media for expressing thoughts is deemed as unacceptable.
Lastly, how Trump’s tweets are presented, most of the time as thoughtless blabber, is a problem that people have with his use of Twitter.
“What I’d say is that he uses Twitter to express his personal feelings that would be better kept private. The public expects the president to be more careful and thoughtful about what he says,” said CHS teacher Dr. Schuetze-Coburn.
When posed with the question of whether or not Donald Trump should delete his account, most people felt that he should not delete his Twitter. They recognize that while he is downright outrageous on the website he has a right to do as he pleases and he can still have his account, because he’s just like us. He has to keep in touch with his family and friends. Also the people do believe that Donald Trump should have a Twitter so that he can inform the country he runs of what he’s doing.
When presented with the question of whether or not his Twitter account should be deleted, AEE senior Cristian Saldana said “No, I don’t think so, because he does need to inform the people about what he’s doing, but he does need to control what he says.”
So what’s the solution for this problem? The last part of the quote above is the answer. “[…] but he does need to control what he says.” A man who can’t even make himself presentable through social media, let alone in the real world, is not suited to run this country.
