Power To The Women!

What does women empowerment mean to you? A few students at Carson High School (CHS) believe that women empowerment is what women are capable of, but there is much more to it  than just that. It is also the ability to speak your mind without being judged by others, respecting women, and holding them equal to men.

To encourage the empowering of women, Academy of Medical Arts  junior Kylamae Repollo stated, “I believe that women can start to speak up for what they believe in, despite what men or anyone else will think.”

People, especially men, must give the same amount of respect that they expect to receive from others, whether or not they support them or their cause. On the day of Aretha Franklin’s funeral service on the 31st of August 2018, Priest Charles H. Ellis had been captured on camera inappropriately holding Ariana Grande, and she revealed how uncomfortable she felt through her facial expressions. This demonstrated how some men manage to stand in the way of or interfere with women empowerment- making females feel of lesser value or worth, belittling or degrading them, making them feel powerless. Just because women empowerment pertains to women, it does not mean men can’t support them or help their cause. Allowing women to express themselves and voice their ideas, thoughts, and opinions on matters relating to or involving them without discrediting them is an essential way of empowering women.

AMA Sophomore Felissa Grace believes “Men are [considered and] convinced to be the dominant gender, and women must take a stand”.

Because there is an imbalance between men and women, so many individuals try to show that women can be held to the same responsibilities, expectations, qualifications, etc as their counterparts. Initially, females seen weak and dependent, but the majority of women at CHS believe that women are independent, strong, beautiful, and intelligent. Females go through much more than men do in terms of physical and mental hardships (periods, pregnancy, the menstrual cycle, etc), and in the end, women manage to get through it. AMA senior Charlene Dizon believes that confidence is key and suggested “We should be more confident in ourselves, and by doing so, we can spread the confidence towards everyone and we would be unstoppable.”

Young girls must strengthen their mentality and not give up on themselves no matter how badly or how often they are criticized, no matter what they are labelled, no matter their situation.  They do not need, nor should they have to seek, approval from men to say or do anything. In the new era of tolerance, what must no longer be tolerated is gender inequality. Men are not superior to women.Women are not to be underestimated. They are strong, and they are capable.
