Carson High School’s Kester Ofoegbu is a tall quiet basketball player that walks around campus as a humble athlete. He is loved by everyone he talks to and is also one of the most humorous people you would ever meet. The big news about Mr. Ofoegbu this year is his basketball career. So far, Kester, being the leading scorer for the boys’ basketball team, is averaging 20.4 points a game. Kester’s talent has been perfected after many years of playing the sport.
“I started playing at 3 years old,” Kester explained.
This summer Kester has put more than enough time in the gym. He worked on every thing that basketball consists of: dribbling, defense, IQ, athleticism, and his shooting ability. In just one year there has been a 14.4 scoring in his stats.
Coach Shaw, head coach and teacher at Carson High School, had plenty of positive things to say about the basketball program.
“Athletically, I’ve never had someone as him, it is just amazing,” said Coach Shaw, “It’s surprising how much better he has gotten just over the summer.”
Kester’s teammates truly enjoy playing with him on the court. AEE senior Keyaun Sterling believes his hard work has paid off tremendously.
“He has been nothing short of spectacular this season.” said Keyaun. His teammates say it’s always fun when on the court with the high flying Kester Ofoegbu. “It is always fun because he is so unpredictable, one second he could be just standing waiting for the ball then the next he is dunking on someone.”
Kester is a very humble student athlete. He loves the competitive atmosphere of basketball and believes that it helps him to understand that nothing in life is just given to you. Kester has no offers yet but many people believe he soon will. He may be quiet around campus but he is making a lot of noise on the court.
