The Carson Colt community is proud of the 2020 Varsity Girls Basketball team for completing an excellent season. These talented young women made it all the way to the state playoffs and earned second place in the city championship game on February 29th against Westchester.

Because of their resilience, it is obvious that they really care a lot about the game.

“Our team showcased hard work by sticking together when the odds were against us. We were ranked the number 7 seed in city, and along the way, we beat the second and third best teams to make is as far as we got,” said Carson High School senior Serah Niupulusu.

Although the team is proud of their accomplishments, they did have the opportunity to reflect on their performance as a whole.

“I learned [that] I can get very frustrated throughout the game, and I can get a little negative sometimes,” said CHS senior and basketball all-star Kaelynn Carlyle. “I’m [still] proud of [our] growth. We were able to make it all the way to the championship. Although we didn’t win, it’s okay.”

Head Coach Perkins added, “They are capable of persevering through tough situations…[but] we need to improve on defense, on hustling 100% of the time, and on a positive outlook for not only practices [but] in game situations [as well].”

Through various changes, growth, and adversity, the girls become more like family instead of simply players on the same team.

“We started out with only seven players and ended [up] with only six players, and even though we only had a [small] amount of people on our team, it actually brought us together and made us stronger and made the girls play harder,” said Coach Perkins.

You win some, you lose some, but there’s always another game to play on another day. With plans for improvement and pride in the game, the Lady Colts are sure to continue impressing their fans.
