STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES

By Rebekah Reyes, Entertainment Editor | Updated 11/12/22

Student Led Conferences took place on October 20th, 2022, from 5-7 pm in the student's advisory class. All students were advised to make a script, stating what they want to accomplish in all their, courses along with their current grades in that class. Their presentation would last 10-15 minutes. The students would present in front of their peers, parents, and advisory teachers. Unfortunately, there was not a great turnout for the event, as 80% of people who participated in a poll stated they did not attend Student Led Conferences, and 20% did.

Student-led conferences were held to keep students accountable and get their parents/guardians involved with their academics. Unlike a parent-teacher night, the parents are involved in the presentation. By being involved they tell the student at the end of the script how they are proud of their child's accomplishment. Some advisory teachers allowed students to turn in the script, without a presentation. And others told their advisory students to record an audio/video of them doing their presentations. Due to time constraints, taking a video recording was the best option during a student-led conference.

Student-led conferences are held annually to encourage and help students and inform the parents of what their child is going through in all their classes, with a belt to visit other classrooms if they have any questions about their child's grade. In conclusion, most students did not attend the conferences, a hope for a better turnout next year is imminent.
