Once again, it is time to vote for a new president for the United States. So far, we’ve had our recent primary elections which took place on the weekend of February 28th, 2020 to March 3rd, 2020. And our very own Carson Complex students are voting and actually working at the voting polls. Not only did these student workers get paid from a range of $300 to $700, but they were also given tasks on how the process of election voting works.
Davon Teague, senior at Carson High School said “As a poll election worker I was in charge of checking people in, kind of like a clerk.”
With these tasks, every poll worker gained a helpful learning experience.
When asked why she signed up to work the voting polls, Rosa Vazquez, CHS senior, said “I honestly wanted to see what it meant to vote as well as I learned to be socialize with others and learned the process of how voting works.”
In addition, poll workers also got to observe how the voting system benefits the community.
Vazquez adds to this by explaining “Since this is a new system it’s much easier to vote and have ways to change anything that was a mistake. So since the voting is much smoother, it makes people within the community want to actually vote.”
This opportunity gave every student who participated a chance to gain a new learning experience on something they may or may not want to experience again but as voters. It gave workers a sense of the election voting system and the way it works. Now, we are counting on them to return to the polls as voters.
