Over the course of this past month, Hurricane Norma has strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane. As it neared peak strength over the Pacific, it was forecast to weaken before reaching the coast of popular tourist resorts on Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

The Associated Press reported that resort areas such as Los Cabos would feel the effects of the hurricane most.

Though the hurricane has now weakened into a tropical storm, Norma had a maximum sustained wind of 40 mph late Sunday and was moving to the north-northwest at 12 mph. Its center was about 95 miles southeast of Los Mochis.

Although the tropical storm will make landfall soon in neighboring Mexico, Carson High School students may be unaware.

CHS senior Thalia Ronholm stated, “No I didn't hear anything on the storm hitting Mexico”.

As of right now, the US has not done anything to provide support to victims and communities affected by the storm

The lack of aid from America can be frustrating for those who are watching the destructive path of the hurricane.

CHSl senior Guilermo Moreno stated, “We should start a canned food drive to send over to the affected areas along with water, flashlights, and blankets.”

A range of storms have been affecting the same region in recent weeks including Tropical Storm Otis which formed over the Pacific far from Mexico’s coast and 500 miles south-southeast of Acapulco according to the National Hurricane Center.
