Thanks for Giving

As always, the holidays are everyone’s favorite time of the year. Whether it’s the food or the time well spent with family, you will always have something to look forward to. Although each individual celebrates the holidays differently, the constant reminder is to give thanks for all that you are grateful for, because that’s what Thanksgiving is all about.

AMA senior Joselyn Carpena, says that holidays have always been different for her and her siblings. Alternating between parents and two different families each year can be difficult to deal with, yet she remains thankful for being given the opportunity to spend the holidays with people she loves.

Her twin sister, Joelyn Carpena, AEE senior, admits “Even though my family is not complete, I still feel complete because I am surrounded by the most loving people I know…The best way to celebrate Thanksgiving is with the people you truly cannot picture your life without and I’m glad I’m still able to do that.”

Because it’s so easy to forget to appreciate what’s actually important, Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to show the people we love how grateful we are for what they’ve brought into our lives. When we are given a moment to reflect on our blessings, suddenly all the problems we thought we could never overcome become so insignificant and we realize how lucky we are.

“Thanksgiving is all about family and being able to make new memories with the people you love and care about,” says Carson High School sophomore, Angel Luna. “I think the best way is to spend the holidays is with your family, regardless of where you are or what you’re doing. Whether you’re Black Friday shopping or eating dinner, it’s important to learn how to show and express your love and appreciation.” shares Luna.

All in all, the best way to spend Thanksgiving Day is surrounded by the people you love and admire. Holidays are all the more meaningful if you are able to create memories and build relationships that you can cherish for a lifetime.
