Carson’s softball season has finally begun. Before the start of the season, the team had a scrimmage against Mary Star High School and won 4-3. Although, February 11th was the official start of the 2023 varsity softball season as the girls went up against Millikan High School in the Cypress Tournament. Unfortunately, the Lady Colts lost 2-6.
The girls have had a rough start to their season but have yet to compete in many more games to come which will give them a chance to overcome their current record.
The team is still holding their heads up high and are not giving up.
This year's returning varsity softball team consists of many new players that make up the infield.
This means that team bonding was crucial during pre-season so that everyone could get to know one another.
Carson High School junior Alyssa Pomale said, “So far this season, I feel like we [softball team] have great potential but just need to tighten up a bit. Since I am new to the team, it felt as if I was a freshman in the beginning, but I have warmed up to most of the girls now.”
Coming up later in March are league games. These are games that will determine who the league champions will be for the season. Usually, Carson will go against high schools such as Narbonne, Banning, Rancho Dominguez, and San Pedro at least twice.
Banning and Pedro are Carson’s biggest rivals during league which means big crowds of people will be seen supporting their favorite team. These games are where memories are made on the field.
CHS freshman Ashannalee said, “I’m looking forward to playing Banning since they are one of our biggest rivals. I also have high expectations for myself [being a freshman on varsity].”
These players are keeping a positive mindset throughout the rough start of their season. The teams’ goal for this year, like every year, is to win the CIF State Championship and earn their rings. Our softball players aren’t losing hope and are determined to win it all!
