Walking into your average American household at around 2 pm, you are likely to see one of the most successful television talk shows of all time playing in the background or at least a commercial advertising it. That show is the iconic Dr. Phil, featuring Phillip Calvin McGraw, also known as Dr. Phil, as the host.

Mcgraw brings people onto the show to give them advice on the struggles they may be going through, struggles that many Americans can relate to.

21 years after the very successful midday show, Dr. Phil come to an end after the 2023 season. This is huge news considering how long the show has been running, as well as how big the fan base still is.

Dr. Phil’s reasons for leaving the show may be so that he can focus on a primetime venture that will allow him to “‘expand his reach and increase his impact on television and viewers,’” according to NPR.

At Mcgraw’s age of 72, it only makes sense that he would want to focus on other things.

Some fans of the show are happy that this part of Dr. Phil’s journey is coming to an end.

“I can't believe he's had a show for so long. I think it's time to move on and try something new,” said Assistant Principal of Carson High School Mr. Riddle.

Still, other fans feel a sense of sadness that America’s most famous TV doctor is no longer going to be in their living rooms in the afternoon.

For example, CHS office technician Mrs. Brown said, “It was a really good show and there was a lot of truth in it. It’s sad to see it go.”

Will another talk show, even the one that Dr. Phil has in the works, be anything like the Dr. Phil that many fell in love with? Only time will tell. What we do know is that there will be no more 2 PM with the famous personality. Instead, there will be certain library episodes that will air during the time slot on CBS.
