As the school year is quickly coming to an end, many seniors are looking forward to going to college. Filled with excitement and joy, they’re ready to experience that college life. However, there’s one problem: money. As we all know, college is not cheap and it requires loads of money. Once you finish your FAFSA, scholarships are a fantastic way to get more money. However, scholarships don’t just hand out money, you have to work hard and earn it.
Ms. Engel from the College Center of Carson complex stated, “Scholarships give you money outright, depending on the type of scholarship. Sometimes it goes directly to the school so it helps to pay with tuition or housing but a lot of times it goes directly to the students who can use it for books, laptops, school expenses, or whatever you need for school.”
Senior Hannah Chan from Academy of Medical Arts also stated, “Scholarships help you financially. It’s good for students who don’t receive FAFSA or don’t have enough money for their college tuition. Scholarships are just an easy way to get that money you need.”
Senior Sarah-Michelle Guei from Carson High School stated, “You can find scholarships anywhere! If you’re a student here I suggest to check schoology. Ms. Engel posts a lot of scholarships on the schoology page for seniors. You can also go to Fastweb or college board, that’s where I get all my information from. Scholarships open a lot of opportunities for you, if you have scholarship money you can use it towards college. Even if it’s a dollar, it’ll still help you.”
As many future college students worry about money, doing scholarships is definitely the way to go when in need of money. There are many different types of scholarships from writing essays, creating videos, or speeches! Scholarships are not just for seniors, they’re for all grade levels and ages. If you need any type of assistance, go to the college center and the peer counselors will proudly help you.
