The New AEE Teacher On The Block

Updated: Oct 17, 2020

For many years, AEE has been a place where students are able to connect and build great relationships with their teachers. However, each relationship had to begin somewhere. The fact being that students are unfamiliar with their teachers at some point, first impressions are important. Teachers essentially play important roles in each student’s lives that only strengthen throughout the years. They are held accountable for building futures and are almost required to leave an impact on those that are there to learn from them. With time, AEE has not only grown in size, but in heart and as a family as well. With that being said, AEE has most recently welcomed the newest addition to their family – biology teacher, Ms. Kendrick. Our only hope is that she is able to thrive in her position as a teacher with much obligation.

With Ms. Kendrick being the only biology teacher in AEE, it’s pretty safe to say that she has plenty of weight on her shoulders. Despite the major responsibility she now holds, Kendrick seems to have it all figured out. Although she has only begun her newest position at AEE, her students, and herself included, have already grown to be very fond of each other. Kendrick explains that along with enjoying the new atmosphere, she has been appreciating the liveliness her students display as they grow and explore while learning.

“Teaching is a huge responsibility because it involves inspiring students to help change the world, one person at a time,” admits Kendrick. Her constant motivation will always be her students and their “openness to set goals and express their creativity.” For this reason, her students seem to admire what she is bringing to AEE. AEE freshman Bianca Cabrales says that contrary to her initial thoughts, Ms.Kendrick has filled her learning experience with “positive energy” and aims to “understand each and everyone one of her students.” Moreover, AEE freshman Samuel Ombico admits that despite Kendrick’s “challenging teaching style,” he enjoys being pushed beyond his comfort zone.

“She has a soft spot for her students… I think that’s how you know she’s a good teacher, ” Ombico adds – which therefore justifies how well such relationships between Kendrick and her students have grown over only one month of instruction.

Above all, Ms. Kendrick, like all teachers, aspires primarily to “create lifelong learners.” Without her confidence in being the sole biology teacher at AEE, the fate of her students would be uncertain. Luckily, and without doubt, it is safe to admit that Kendrick’s students are in good hands. Regardless of our current unfamiliarity with her, we look forward to watching Ms.Kendrick prosper at AEE as she continues to learn from her students, and her students learn from her.
