The Tragedy of Mr. Gross

Updated: Oct 17, 2020

Mr. Gross was a fellow substitute teacher of the Carson High School Complex as well as other schools.

During his time substituting at Carson, he’s taught two geometry classes during summer school and filled in for Ms. Coyle at the beginning of this school year. Along with being a substitute teacher, Mr. Gross was also a faculty member of the “chapter chair,” which is an administration for professional rights and helps resolve many conflicts within it.

When asked about the tragic and untimely passing of Mr. Gross, principal of CHS Dr. Warren suffered a personal affect.

She stated, “It has had an affect on several individuals and reminds me to appreciate people as well as life.”

Ms. Coyle also knew Mr. Gross very well because she would always select him as her substitute if he was available. She also worked with him in the “chapter chairs” program.

“My students were upset firsthand and we’ve lost the best substitute who had worked for Carson High for 25 years. He was the best human being that cared very importantly about all students’ education and wanted to see them succeed. He was also around long enough to be a part of the chapter chair with the same reputation as Mr. Mertens from AEE,” Ms. Coyle said.

Anthony Henderson, a senior from CHS, had Mr. Gross as a sub in Ms. Coyle’s class, as well as in summer school.

He stated, “It’s sad and unbelievable because I just recently had him as a sub. We have to appreciate everything in life.”

Mr. Gross’s sudden and unexpected death came as a shock to both faculty and students. His hard work and commitment to his students will endure forever. His memory will live on forever in our hearts.
