The Weeknd's Make-up Concert

By Brooklyn Collins, Features Editor | December 15, 2022

In support of his latest albums, Dawn FM and After Hours, The Weeknd announced his North America tour in early March of 2022, the After Hours Til Dawn Tour.

His tour took off in his hometown of Toronto on July 8th and was scheduled to end on September 3rd in Los Angeles. During his LA show, The Weeknd abruptly stopped the concert three songs in to announce to fans that he had lost his voice.

Academy of Medical Arts junior Samantha Vasquez attended the concert and could not hide her disappointment.

“I was extremely sad and shocked, but I completely understand why he canceled it. He couldn’t give us the show he wanted to and ultimately his health comes first,” said Vasquez.

During that concert, The Weeknd announced that he would refund everyone who attended and that he would be back soon to make it up to his fans.

He kept his promise to his fans, adding an additional two days to the tour in Los Angeles on November 26th and 27th at SoFi Stadium.

Vasquez was lucky enough to be able to attend his makeup concert on the 27th.

Vasquez stated, “It was everything I expected and more. He was so energetic; I was screaming my heart out. I had the time of my life...”

He performed a two-hour set list of over 25 songs including some of his most popular ones like “Gasoline”, “Heartless”, and “Die for You”.

In life, we all face setbacks and challenges, even our favorite celebrities. The challenges themselves are not what is important, its’ how we chose to respond to them.

The Weeknd was honest with his fans and returned to the stage giving a stellar performance that fans like Vasquez will never forget.
