As holiday season approaches, the National Football League and fans prepare their Thanksgiving holiday celebration around the division rivalry clashes. Thanksgiving Day hosted three divisional rivalry games: the Chicago Bears vs the Detroit Lions, the Washington Redskins vs The Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints vs the Atlanta Falcons.

The Lions vs The Bears clashed at 9:30 am pacific time. Both teams had hopes of making a statement and perhaps clinching a wildcard game entering the playoffs. The Bears came out victorious with a 23-16 win.

Following that matchup, the Dallas Cowboys hosted the Washington Redskins at 1:30 pm PST, an action filled game, with the Cowboys beating the Redskins 23-31.

Despite the loss, Carson High Football’s defensive coordinator and die hard Redskins fan Cecil Powell said, “I am going to be joyously devouring my wife’s home cooked macaroni and cheese while Dak Prescott struggles.”

Perhaps the most anticipated Thanksgiving rivalry game was between the Saints and the Falcons at 5:30 pm PST. Both southern teams are the most dangerous within the NFC south division, with top notch quarterbacks Matt Ryan (Falcons) and Drew Brees (Saints). This matchup may be a preview of the NFC Championship.

CHS senior and New Orleans native Sasha Floyd exclaimed, “The Atlanta Falcons don’t have nothing on the Saints. Who cares about Thanksgiving, that’s going to be easy money boy! The Saints going to the Super Bowl!”

The Saints did pull off a big win, 31-17.

With that being said, aside from the delicious food and family time, the rival NFL games added more flavor and pizazz to Thanksgiving.
