For over 29 years now, the UCLA Blood Drive has been something Carson High School students could participate in.
In order to get students to volunteer during the blood drive, the leadership and Carson Complex staff offered snacks and prizes to those who helped. One of the prizes included a free movie ticket given to all student volunteers.
Not only did students get snacks and prizes, but they also got to potentially save a life!
“It's important to all those people who need the blood and need the transfusion or even in surgeries that can help out a lot of people,” commented CHS senior Emily Gutierrez. “It helps save many lives.”
These blood donations are critical to our community because patients in hospitals may need an emergency transfusion to help with replacing blood that is lost due to surgery or injury or for those who have autoimmune or blood disorders who may need a transfusion. Overall, these blood transfusions are critical for cancer treatments, childbirth, severe anemia, and other medical treatments.
Gutierrez said, “I would recommend others to donate blood for the same reason because a lot of people actually need it and there are a lot of people that can be saved from blood, like transfusions and other stuff.”
“The blood drive helps society,” said CHS senior Anthoy Mora. “It helps and cures people that are in need of blood. It's worthwhile for everyone to do it.”
This year was yet again another successful blood drive. We are thankful to all of the nurses, staff members, and leadership students who helped make this year’s blood drive possible.
