Welcoming the New AMA Counselor

Updated: Oct 17, 2020

Although we are halfway finished with the school year, we continue to welcome new faculty to our school. AMA welcomes their new counselor, Ms. Davis.

Ms. Davis has been a familiar face to the Carson campus. She has been a counselor at Carson High School for over 10 years, back when the school wasn’t divided into academies. She stated that she was a counselor and administrator for about 20 years at Banning, showing that she’s very experienced in her job as a school counselor.

“As counselor, I have to make sure I monitor the seniors with their graduation requirements, organizing schedules for the next school year, and doing prep work for AP testing as AP exams are coming up,” Ms. Davis explained.

Even though she has many responsibilities as counselor, she wants to make sure it meets the expectations for the students and faculty at AMA.

“It’s important that I would provide the support and help needed from the students, parents, and staff,” she answered.

Unfortunately, Ms. Davis also stated that she is an interim counselor, meaning that she is not a permanent counselor for AMA and will only be fulfilling the job until the school year ends in June.

Recently, some of the faculty in AMA has come and go, but that doesn’t stop the optimism from the faculty and students.

AMA’s school administrator assistant Ms. Young replied, “She [Ms. Davis] knows what the students need. She gives students the direction they need as she prepares students to go to college. And she is aware of what curriculum students need in order to succeed. Therefore, she is the perfect person to be the school counselor for our academy.”

AMA senior Fiorina Talaba said, “Ms. Davis knows what she’s doing since she’s been a school counselor for a long time. It’s great that we have her as our counselor because it’s important that students could develop a relationship with one another so that they could learn more about your academic history and career path in order to have the advice and guidance needed. Counselors should be reliable for students during their high school experience.”

Nonetheless, Ms. Davis will be a great asset for the students in AMA for the time being.
